Maddie Butler is an interdisciplinary artist making work about contemporary mechanisms of intimacy. She adapts the tools of atomized digital existence to create opportunities for intersubjective understanding, building something tangible from the spaces between people. Her position is one of cautionary awe: excited by the body extended through pixels, wary of the psychic distortion this process can cause.
Butler is currently based in Brooklyn. She is a graduate of Yale University, where she studied sculpture. Alongside her personal practice, Butler commits much of her time and resources to facilitating experimental creative spaces, with a guiding principle of promoting conversation, expression and communion through art.
